Team Leader as Facilitator

The role of Facilitator is becoming a significant part of the team leader function as well as any function involving training in interpersonal skills. When looking at the behaviors required to be a good facilitator consider the following:
- Communication
- Holds participants' interest when presenting ideas or information
- Gives clear and concise instructions for exercises and other activities
- Maintains appropriate eye contact with participants
- Speaks clearly and audibly
- Uses words that participants understand
- Group Process
- Remains flexible when changes in the lesson plan or schedule are necessary
- Uses positive reinforcement to encourage learning
- Suggests ideas and shares information that may be helpful to participants
- Turns negative classroom situations into positive learning experiences
- Summarizes key points to create meaningful transitions
- Structure
- Uses training aids effectively
- Stimulates learning and participation with a variety of questions, exercises and discussion
- Facilitates well-organized learning experiences
